Despite being able to vote, Selena Gomez did not vote in the US presidential elections in 2012 or 2016.
Selena Gomez has opened up about her voting history in a livestream and revealed that 2020 is the first time she has voted.
Selena Gomez fans will already know that she's been extremely vocal about the importance of voting in the US presidential election this year. First things first, Selena teamed up with Michelle Obama in the When We All Vote initiative, then she took part in Netflix's Whose Vote Counts, Explained documentary. Selena also posted on Instagram about filling out her ballot.

Given her activism, many fans assumed that Selena had already voted multiple times but now the 28-year-old has revealed that she hadn't voted until this year.
Over the weekend, Selena took part in multiple major, voting initiatives. She held an Instagram Live with Timothée Chalamet encouraging fans to vote and she appeared in the Voting Power Hour livestream. During the livestream, Selena was asked about the first time she voted and Selena explained that the 2020 presidential election is the first time she's ever voted.
Selena said: "I'm not ashamed to say this but this was my first time." She then implied that she never really felt like her vote ever mattered before. She said: "I'm now like admitting it to people, 'My vote counts. Every little thing counts.' I think some people get in their head but... once I really, really started going in and diving into this, it's been all I could focus on."
