Selena Gomez fans think that her new single 'Lose You to Love Me' was inspired by her relationship with Justin Bieber.
Selena Gomez has opened up about a past relationship and the "emotional chaos" she experienced in a candid interview.
Two months ago (Oct 23), Selena Gomez returned with her brand new singles 'Lose You to Love Me' and 'Look at Her Now' from her upcoming album Rare. Both songs received widespread critical acclaim and 'Lose You to Love Me' became her first US Number 1 single. Selena hasn't confirmed who the two singles are about by name but, given that she dated Justin Bieber on and off for eight years before they officially split in March 2018, fans believe they were inspired by her relationship with Justin. Now Selena has spoken about the relationship which inspired them and how she made it out of the "abuse" she was suffering in it.
In a recent interview, Selena revealed what it was like to play the 'Lose You to Love Me' video to her close friend Taylor Swift for the first time. She explained: "It was one of the coolest experiences because I’ve been friends with her for over a decade and love her family." She then added: "She played it and her and her mom just started crying. Like, just tears and tears".
Selena then touched on the relationship which inspired 'Lose You to Love Me': "It’s going to make me cry thinking about it because they had been on that journey with me intimately, and they were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life and it not involving the horrible things - the abuse, the emotional chaos."
She went on to say: "It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief and to see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet. It’s like an older sister and an aunt proud of their [friend]. It felt great to have people I love see it as that."

In a recent Instagram post, Justin Bieber appeared to reference the abuse Selena is talking about. He didn't mention Selena by name but he spoke about mistreating women in previous relationships and his use of drugs. He wrote: "I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships. I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry."
Discussing the relationship which inspired 'Lose You to Love Me' in a separate interview, Selena called it "one of the worst chapters of her life." She said: "Everything that happened within two years was a shit show. It takes time for you to even realise that you lost your self."
She continued: "I had people fall in love with who I was and then slowly but surely tear that down until I was nothing. I felt worthless. I felt thrown to the side. It was horrible. It was the most disgusting feeling."
