Selena Gomez co-wrote her new single 'Lose You to Love Me' with Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter and Finneas.
Julia Michaels has defended Selena Gomez on Twitter after trolls accused the former Disney star of not being a songwriter.
Selena Gomez is back. It's been four years since the 27-year-old released her last studio album Revival but she is now ready to start a new era. Selena announced on Friday that she will be releasing 'Lose You to Love Me' as the lead single from SG2 this Wednesday (Oct 23) and it's become the most pre-saved song in Spotify history. It's also been hinted at that popstar Julia Michaels, hit songwriter Justin Tranter and Billie Eilish producer (and brother) Finneas are all involved in the song.

Ahead of the song's release, trolls accused Selena of not being a writer and now Julia's called them out.
As soon as rumours started to circulate that Julia, Justin and Finneas were involved in Selena's new song (they've all posted about it on social media), fans started getting excited. However, the news led one person to tweet: "so selena did... nothing" and another to comment: "as always". A thread then developed of people mocking and defending Selena and someone wrote: "I “dragged” her just because I said she wrote 0 songs LMFAO y’all really get pressed over nothing".
Noticing the thread online, Julia swooped in to clear things up. She tweeted: "I can actually 100% say that selena is VERY much a songwriter. Coming from someone that has written with her multiple times. Please don’t comment on things you know nothing about. It’s extremely rude." Say it louder for the people in the back!
Julia has co-written hits with Selena including 'Good for You', 'Hands to Myself' and 'Bad Liar'.

Selena's actually been heavily involved in writing her own music throughout her career. Songs like 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' take direct inspiration from her personal life and wouldn't exist without her. It seems highly likely that 'Lose You to Love Me' will follow suit. Fans are already speculating that it's about her loving herself after leaving Justin Bieber.
Sadly it's not uncommon for people to assume that female popstars don't have any hand in writing their own music. Earlier this year, Ariana Grande faced accusations that she didn't write her own music despite numerous writing credits. Ariana clapped back by sharing voice notes of her literally creating music in the studio.
In short, stop underestimating women.
