A new Selena Gomez album SG2 is on the horizon. Get all the info about the follow-up to Revival here...
It's no secret that Selena Gomez fans are desperate to hear a new album from the 'Hands to Myself' star. It's been 84 years. Well not quite but it's already over three years since Revival came out and Selenators all around the world are ready to hear what Selena has been cooking up in the studio. She has a knack for creating perfectly crafted, game-changing pop and we have no doubt that SG2 will be the same.
Thankfully, it looks as though Selena's new album will actually come out this year. Find out everything about it below.
As it stands, there is still no concrete released date for SG2 but Selena's finally confirmed that she has finished it. In a brand new interview with Jimmy Fallon (June 11), Selena revealed "I'm actually done. I have to do like a few finishing things with it but I'm just relieved. It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album and it's just because I had such huge moments that happened in my personal life."
In an Instagram live (March 13), Selena said: "I'm currently in the studio right now and it's going really good. I'm just nervous about it honestly 'cause I feel like the next few choices that I'm gonna make are very crucial. So I'm trying to be really, really diligent and patient with everything." Given what Selena's said in her Fallon interview, it looks like those choices have been made and SG2 will be with us within the year.
She then added: "Album is coming very very soon and everything's good. I'm super super happy." This is a great sign. In the past few years, Selena has taken time out to focus on her health (she's spent time in rehab and had a kidney transplant) so it is great to hear that she's well. Selena has also been photographed in the studio a lot recently so it looks she's working to make sure that this her best project yet.
As to when "very very soon" is, we reckon that we could have a new single in the coming months (and possibly a performance at the Billboard Music Awards in May) and the album shortly afterwards (perhaps in August around the VMAs). That being said, Selena is popular enough that she could also opt for a surprise release à la Beyoncé so we wouldn't rule anything out.
After a few weeks in the studio bus safe to say.. we are VERY close to album #2 #SG2 pic.twitter.com/kWFg7ZdBPp

Selena Gomez is yet to announce a title for her new album but she has affectionately been referring to it as SG2 with fans. It is worth noting that this will actually be Selena's third solo studio album but, since her last album Revival was her first album under her new label Interscope, and the first in which she had full creative control, Selena probably feels like this upcoming project is her second official LP.
Some fans are speculating that it will be self-titled or named 'Rare' after one of the reported songs on the album.
Selena Gomez has so far remained pretty tight lipped regarding details about the direction of her new album. However, she did play some of the tracks to Elle in September 2018 and it sounds promising. The songs have been compared to Prince. They explore themes such as independence and self-love and reportedly include empowering lyrics like: "Why don’t you recognise I’m so rare?”.
Speaking about a song called 'Flawless' that she has recorded for the album, Selena stated: "Meaning through all your imperfections, you’re flawless. You’re not striving. It’s me encouraging a younger version of myself. Even when you’re imperfect, even when you’re feeling worthless, you are flawless. It’s a song I’m going to sing for the rest of my life.”
Selena has worked with her Revival collaborators Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels on the album, as well as in demand producers and writers like Ryan Tedder and Benny Blanco, so we know that SG2 will be filled with hits. 'Bad Liar' and 'Fetish' could be hints as to what SG2 will sound like.
Discussing the album with Jimmy Fallon, Selena said that it will have "a sense of strong pop". However, she says she: "explored with electric guitar" and "acoustic guitar" and that there are "soulful tracks".
DJ Snake - Taki Taki ft. Selena Gomez, Ozuna, Cardi B
Back in 2017 Selena teased that she had recorded a song with a female artist but she never specified who it was. Rumours on social media sugest that it could be Halsey or Nicki Minaj but nothing is confirmed yet. Meanwhile, Selena has released songs with everyone from Cardi B and Marshmello to J Balvin and Julia Michaels since dropping Revival.
It's unclear if any of Selena's recent collaborations will appear on SG2 or not. There is also speculation that the album is now feature free because Selena wants to put a spotlight on her own voice.
#SG3 is 100% dropping this year and there’s a 0.01% chance of me and @KellyRipa starring in a music video. Can’t wait @SelenaGomez! pic.twitter.com/DncYczrSFS

Selena has so far released a total of 11 (!) songs since Revival ('We Don't Talk Anymore', 'Trust Nobody', 'It Ain't Me', 'Only You', 'Bad Liar', 'Fetish', 'Wolves', 'Back to You', 'Taki Taki', 'Anxiety', 'I Can't Get Enough'). However, most appear to be standalone singles or for other people's projects. With that in mind, it's unlikely that any will feature on SG2. That being said, should SG2 have a similar campaign as Revival, we can expect at least four singles.
Speaking to Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa, Selena revealed that the lead single is coming this year.
Again this is yet to be confirmed. Like we said before it's unlikely that SG2 will feature any of Selena's previously released singles, so we can expect a whole album of new tracks. Unless there have been any drastic changes since Selena did her Elle interview, 'Rare' and 'Flawless' are currently confirmed. We can't wait to find out what else will feature.
Yes. Selena hasn't toured since she cut her Revival tour short in 2016, so she intends to do a worldwide tour in support of SG2. As it stands, no dates or further information have been revealed but we shall update you as soon as they are.
