The 'Diamonds' singer also says she wanted a collection that every woman would be able to identify with.
Rihanna has teased her upcoming summer 2013 collection for River Island and says she chose some of the designs for her "fat days".
The 'We Found Love' singer revealed she designed different pieces for her whole "crew" to fit in with their different tastes and body types, while giving fans their first look at the new clothes.
"I just made stuff that I want to wear, I was being selfish," Rihanna says in the new behind the scenes clip. "I just wanted stuff that I want to wear because, at the end of the day, that's what got me into designing.
"Seeing things on the rack that were great but it could have been a little more me, it could have fit better," she explained. "I needed to make clothes for fat days."
The 'Diamonds' singer goes on to say she designed the collection so that women of all body types would be able to find something that suits them.
"I made a piece for everybody in my crew," Rihanna continued. "We all have different body types and different tastes, and some are braver than others, but I think like that because that's how the women in the world are.
"We're all different, we all like different things," she added.
