As we get ready to welcome in the New Year, we've put together a gallery of our favourite Twitter moments of the last 12 months.

The year kicked off with Kanye West upsetting Britney fans when he posted a "playful" tweet about her chart positions.

Tulisa Contostavlos also took to Twitter to vent her anger against the proposed hike in university fees in 2011, while music stars including The Wanted and Katy Perry took part in the worldwide phenomenon of planking.

The year also saw Katy kiss a crocodile – and like it – and feud with Calvin Harris.
