TRUE Fall Out Boy fans knew.
On Tuesday (Jun 9), Pete Wentz started trending on Twitter and, sadly, it was nothing to do with a new Fall Out Boy track. The world has just discovered that Pete is biracial (again) following the news that the singer and his Fall Out Boy bandmate Andy Hurley were members of anti-racist music group Racetraitor.
It all started when Fall Out Boy declared that they would be donating $100,000 to National Bail Out and Black Visions Collective in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. A fan then retweeted the message, writing: "Never forget that 2 members of Fall Out Boy were in a punk band called Racetraitor. They wrote anti-racist and anti-imperialist songs. The name of their first EP is called 'Burn The Idol Of The White Messiah'."

Racetraitor formed in 1996, however, both Pete and Andy were not original members. Pete was the band's bassist at one point but he left to form Fall Out Boy in 2001. Andy is still listed as a current member.

People who were clueless about Racetraitor and their strong message were surprised to hear that the two pop punk legends were part of the band. However, it also led to a discovery about Pete's heritage.
Pete's mother Dale has Afro-Jamaican ancestry and his father Pete Wentz II is of German and English descent. Although Pete has spoken about this before, many were still shocked to hear about it.

Pete opened up about growing up in a biracial family in a predominantly white neighbourhood during a 2018 interview with Kerrang!.

He said: "The only thing that was a little weird is our family is mixed race, and it was a super-white neighbourhood, so it was like, 'Oh…I don’t look like any of the people that I live near in this community.' But there was no great sadness to it. If anything, it made me be like, 'Well, I’m just who I am.’ It gave me armour."
