The 'One Thing' stars will apparently be appearing in a moving truck that travels around the stadium on the night.
One Direction are reportedly all set to appear at this weekend's London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony after they have been seen at a secret rehearsal session this week.
The 'Gotta Be You' stars will apparently perform their worldwide smash 'What Makes You Beautiful' from a "carnival-like flat-bed truck" which will be moving around the stadium.
"It's all hush-hush and the boys have been sworn to secrecy," revealed an insider to the Daily Mirror. "But they've been at rehearsals and can't wait to do their bit.
"It will be an unforgettable occasion and they feel privileged to be a part of it."
The band have long been linked with a performance at the event but have yet to confirm or deny the reports.
Ed Sheeran, Muse and George Michael have all confirmed their performances on the night with The Spice Girls, Pet Shop Boys and Kate Bush all among the names said to appear on the night.
Meanwhile, the boyband are currently working on their new album and have been teasing the release of the record for the past month.
Taking to Twitter last night (8th August), Liam Payne declared: "I cant wait for you guys to hear the new albummm !!!"
One Direction are expected to unveil a new single before the end of 2012.
