The 'Gotta Be You' singer grew up close to the Irish boxer, who has secured the country their first London 2012 medal.
One Direction's Niall Horan has phoned Irish boxer John Joe Nevin after he secured Ireland's first medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Nevin won his bantamweight quarter-final earlier this week, meaning he is assured at least a bronze when he fights Cuban Lazaro Alvarez in the semi-finals on Friday (10th August).
Niall grew up near Nevin and revealed on Twitter that they had enjoyed catching up over the telephone.
"On the phone to @johnJoeNevin for the last hour! He's a sound lad! We grew up 100 yards away from eachother, now he's goin for an olympic medal," Niall tweeted.
Nevin also tweeted after speaking to Niall, writing: "Just spen a hour and half on the phone to @NiallOfficial wat a lad gas lad sound out he is some buzz."
One Direction are currently preparing for the release of their second album, which is due to be released later this year.
