The 'One Thing' stars will take part in a half hour episode looking back at the best moments from the ceremony over the years.
One Direction are set to host their own special MTV Video Music Awards 2012 show called My First Time – where they relive the most memorable moments from the history of the event.
The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars are already confirmed to make a live appearance at the event, taking to the stage alongside the likes of Pink, Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift, and will sit down for the new half-hour programme at the end of the month.
Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn and Louis will share their thoughts and opinions on some of the biggest moments including the infamous kiss between Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Madonna.
The boyband will also discuss their feelings about performing at the event as well as featuring clips from some of the other perfomers on the night including rock band Green Day.
The British stars are also up for Best New Artist and Best Pop Video on the evening.
Rihanna and Drake are the most nominated acts at the event scooping a total of five nods each – including for their collaborative track 'Take Care'.
The MTV VMA's will take place live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on 6th September.
Meanwhile, One Direction yesterday (23rd August) confirmed details of their new single 'Live While We're Young' which will be released on 30th September with second studio album following in November.
