The 'One Thing' stars featured in a top ten poll of the UK's most searched topics of the year.
One Direction have been named as one of Facebook's most talked about people in 2012.
The social networking site has released their annual year in review compiled list of the most searched for and talked about songs, people and events for the past twelve months.
The boyband came sixth in a top ten list of the 'Most Talked About' category, which was topped by the London 2012 Olympic Games.
X Factor contestant Rylan Clark was the highest performing invididual as he made it into the top three with the Death of Whitney Houston just behind in four.
On the most popular songs list, Gotye's worldwide smash 'Somebody That I Used To Know' came out on top with Grammy 2013 nominees Fun coming in at number two.
Ed Sheeran, Alex Clare and David Guetta also all featured on the top ten list which was rounded off by Train and 'Drive By'.
It also appeared that London's O2 Arena was one of the most popular venues to check-in at on Facebook, making its way inside the top ten with Alton Towers hitting the number one spot.
