A ~ whole ~ mess.

Miley Cyrus just posted on Instagram that virginity is a social construct and the internet has some thoughts. In case you don't recall, cast your mind all the way back to the 'Mother's Daughter' singer's NSFW stunts to promote her She Is Coming EP.

Miley Cyrus' vagina teeth bodysuit in her 'Mother's Daughter' video was a "powerful" statement

Miley gave us some serious slurping in an ASMR video which saw her chomp on squelchy fruit. Not one to waste, she also used the fruit (okay, we can't confirm it's the same fruit…) to cover her chest for a collection of hoodies in partnership with Planned Parenthood and Marc Jacobs.

Most recently, Miley has been promoting her latest track from She Is Coming EP, 'Mother's Daughter'. The iconic 'Mother's Daughter' video was released on July 2 and featured a host of underrepresented people delivering a powerful message – don't fuck with my freedom.

If you've seen the video, you'd notice subliminal messages flashed up on the screen like "tough titties" and "feminist AF". Later, Miley posted stills from the video on Instagram, including the messages on-screen, but one particular post is getting everyone talking.

Miley shared an image that read: "Virginity is a social construct," and her comments section was W-I-L-D. It's pretty clear a lot of people didn't understand the message and came for Miley in the comments section. Some claimed that Miley was being a bad role model and shaming virgins, while others said that virginity was indeed a social construct.

Of course, her fans stepped in on Twitter to join the debate and share their views.

FYI, virginity *IS* a social construct. The idea of virginity was created by humans and accepted within society to make people (especially women) feel bad about their sexual experiences and to determine their "worth".

This wouldn't be the first time Miley has caught some heat for voicing her views, though. Following the passing of several bills banning abortions beyond six weeks into the pregnancy, Miley shared photos licking an "Abortion Is Healthcare" cake. She received backlash from pro-lifers but she handled it like a champ, dragging the trolls in the comments section.
