Luke Hemmings shares snippet of debut solo single
'When Facing the Things We Turn Away From' is Luke Hemmings' debut solo project outside of 5 Seconds of Summer.
Luke Hemmings has recorded a solo album called When Facing the Things We Turn Away From and his first single is out now.
Last year, 5 Second of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin surprised fans by releasing his first solo music outside of the band. In September, he released his debut solo single 'Skinny Skinny' and announced his debut solo album writing: "It brings me the greatest joy of all that I am in a band that allows me to create freely inside and outside of it. I can’t wait for you to hear it."

Now, Luke has revealed that he has been working on solo music too and you can listen to 'Starting Line' right now.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (Jun 28), Luke wrote: "Tomorrow 9pm PT", alongside an array of candid photos of him writing and recording music in his home studio. Luke also teased the title When Facing the Things We Turn Away From and launched a solo website where fans can sign up for email updates.
If that weren't exciting enough, Luke also posted an array of Instagram stories of him behind the scenes in the studio and in them you can hear a clip of a song. Luke sings: "All these memories maybe they were never mine / I feel the walls are closing I'm running out of time / I think I missed the gun at the starting line'.
Now, Luke has revealed that the snippet was from his debut solo single 'Starting Line' and he's released the song.
In a new Instagram post, Luke wrote: "I couldn’t be prouder to introduce you to “When Facing the Things We Turn Away From”; a project that grew out of a year of enforced stillness. I’m so grateful for the journey this album has taken me on and I’m so thankful to have had this creative outlet during my time at home. Lyrically and sonically, this album has allowed me to decipher the last 10 years of my life and help me make sense of the person I am today and how I got here."
He then added: "It will be released everywhere August 13. Today, you can hear a first taste of the album; “Starting Line”. Thank you to my brothers in 5sos for your support and allowing me to pursue this project. Endless love to you."
