Shawn Mendes Almost Auditioned For The Lead Role In "Love, Simon"

Shawn wanted the role of Simon... but life got in the way. *sob*
Shawn Mendes isn't exactly known for his acting skills but he has done a little bit of on-screen work before. He had a role in The 100 a couple of years ago and it was announced last year that he'll be starring in a new movie musical called Summer of Love, so it should come as no surprise to hear that he almost auditioned to play the lead role in one of the biggest movies of the year.
Shawn has been out and about promoting his two brand new singles ('In My Blood' and 'Lost in Japan') and upcoming album, which is dropping "very soon."
Speaking on the Elvis Duran show, Shawn revealed that he actually considered auditioning for the role of Simon in the movie, but things didn't quite come together in time for him to be able to actually do it.

“Yeah, I would’ve loved to,” said, Shawn when he was asked to elaborate on the confession. “Unfortunately, timing didn’t work out, but that would’ve been amazing.”
As we all know, the role of Simon eventually ended up going to Nick Robinson who has been garnering praise for his performance left, right and centre - and Shawn had nothing but words of support for him.
“Watching last night, Nick just did an incredible job and it was really amazing,” he gushed. “Except for the fact that I was freaking out every two minutes, checking my phone, because ['In My Blood'] was coming. I thought going to a movie would be a relaxing thing to do... the opposite!”
How different would Love, Simon have been if it'd been Shawn instead? We guess we'll never know. He might have not have snagged a role in one of this year's biggest movies but you can still catch Shawn on screen in the upcoming musical Summer of Love, his first big film appearance.
