The 'Wide Awake' singer says her film is meant to show fans you don't have to look perfect to succeed.
Katy Perry says she put several unflattering scenes into her new concert movie Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D because she wanted to show that stars don't always look perfect, as a positive message for her younger fans.
The 'Teenage Dream' singer says she now feels more comfortable in her own skin, and wanted to put out a message that achieving your dreams is about working hard and having drive rather than simply having the right look.
"There's some scenes that I know people will screenshot and be like, 'Oh she looks like a fat cow with zits'," Katy revealed to MTV News. "But I put those in there because that's a part of me, that's reality, and I'm OK with that.
"It's been a process learning it's OK, and I'm accepting of my own skin, but I think it's important for young kids to see that you don''t have to be perfect in order to achieve your dreams."
Katy went on to say that her 3D film will help dispel the false perception that music stars are always "perfectly made-up", and reminds fans she came from nothing herself and worked her way up the industry with dedication and hard work.
"Because I think that the world has this strange, skewed perception of successful people, that they're just so perfectly made up, and they have all these possessions that make them who they are, and that's not at all how I got here," Katy explained. "I came from nothing, I didn't have anything. I just had a dream, and I worked very hard at achieving that dream.
She added: "And that's exactly what it takes, it takes a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, a lot of focus, and hopefully that will open the door for you. But it' not about being perfect."
