Lady Gaga took on a tail in France for her performance on TV show 'Le Grand Journal', and later announced she'll be donning a mermaid outfit in her new video.

And now Katy Perry has jumped on Gaga's mermaid bandwagon tweeting a pic of herself in an outfit inspired by the mythical creatures.

Gaga's creative director Laurieann Gibson took to Twitter to claim that Gaga is the original mermaid in pop.

"Proud of my artist #1 in the world @Ladygaga her vision& passion." she tweeted.

"Even though they try to steal a tail there's only 1 Mermaid, Swim On!!!"

Gaga's underwater alter-ego who goes by the name of Yuyi will be fully revealed in the music video for her next single which has yet to be named.
