The 'Young Forever' rapper was said to have declined the chance to perform live with his wife at the event.
Jay-Z reportedly opted out of joining Beyonce on stage at the Super Bowl halftime show at the last minute.
According to new reports, the 'Empire State Of Mind' rapper had been expected to join his wife to perform their hit single 'Crazy In Love' at the start of her set.
However, Jay-Z is said to have changed his mind shortly before the show so as not to take anything away from the 'Love On Top' singer's big moment.
"He wanted that to be her moment and didn't want to take away from it," a friend of the US rapper told Us Weekly after the performance. "She's been working her ass off".
Instead of performing alongside his pop singer wife the Roc Nation boss was said to have watched backstage from a special viewing area with their daughter Blue Ivy.

Despite Jay-Z's absence from the show Beyonce was joined by her Destiny's Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland for a short medley of their biggest hits.
In another last minute change for the Super Bowl performance, the 'Say My Name' trio reportedly opted not to perform 'Bills, Bills, Bills' during the medley in favour of their hit 'Bootylicious'.
Beyonce's Super Bowl performance helped the event become the third most watched TV show of all time, as well as giving a significant boost to digital sales of Destiny's Child's music.
The 'Countdown' singer has now announced a brand new world tour called 'The Mrs. Carter Show' which arrives in the UK this April.
