Harry Styles fans are sobbing over Camille Rowe's voicemail in his 'Cherry’ lyrics
13 December 2019, 15:41
'Cherry' has a French spoken word segment by Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend Camille Rowe and the translation is heartbreaking.
Harry Styles has put out his new album Fine Line and people can't get over the Camille Rowe dialogue in his 'Cherry' lyrics.
It's been a good year for Harry Styles fans. In October, he returned with 'Lights Up' and the video included a naked, bisexual orgy. He then hosted Saturday Night Live, released 'Watermelon Sugar' and pretty much confirmed that the song is all about oral sex. And, more recently, he's eaten sperm to avoid telling Kendall Jenner which songs are about her on his first album.

Today (Dec 13), Harry dropped his second album Fine Line and it's already received widespread critical acclaim. People are living for how honest, confident and mature the record is. However, it's 'Cherry', which fans are loving most of all and it has something to do with the fact that Camille Rowe, who Harry dated between 2017 and 2018, actually features on the song.
What does Camille Rowe's voicemail in Harry Styles' 'Cherry’ lyrics mean?
'Cherry' is an honest song about seeing an ex move on and date someone new and being jealous, bitter and heartbroken. In the chorus, Harry sings: "Don't you call him "baby" / We're not talking lately / Don't you call him what you used to call me". Harry hasn't said who the song is about explicitly but he's left several hints which pretty much confirm it's about Camille.
First things first, the "Does he take you walking 'round his parents' gallery?" line in the bridge seems to be a direct reference to Camille's current art-dealer boyfriend Theo Niarchos. Then there's the "I just miss your accent" lyric which appears to be about Camille's French-American accent and finally, she literally features on the song. 'Cherry' ends with dialogue by Camille.
Camille's voicemail in French
Coucou! Tu dors? Oh, je suis désolée
Bah non, non, c'est pas important
Bon allez
On a été à la plage et maintenant on—
Parfait !
Camille's voicemail in English
Hello! Are you asleep? Oh, I’m sorry…
Well, no, no, it’s not important
Well…
We went to the beach and we…
Perfect!
And it turns out that it's a real voicemail which Camille left for Harry.

Discussing the song with Zane Lowe, Harry said he was feeling "not great" when he wrote it. He then added: "I wanted it to be true to the moment. It was all part of being more open and not like, "I don't care". You get petty when something's not going the way that you want, and 'Cherry' is pathetic in a way." He said he felt "so good" afterwards though.
As for the voicemail, Harry told him: "That was my ex-girlfriend. It got added in later on and it felt so part of the song. It just felt like it needed it. We're friends so I asked her if it was okay and she was okay with it." People have since guessed that the song is called 'Cherry' because Camille used to call Harry "chérie", which means "dear" in French.
Naturally, fans are sobbing over how emotional the song is and the meaning behind it.
Me: Every time Harry names a song after a fruit it’s so fun and upbeat
