Ed Sheeran has unveiled his first new song in over two years after announcing he has recorded the end credits for forthcoming movie The Movie: The Desolation Of Smaug.

The 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' star made the announcement on Twitter and revealed that he also managed to play just about ever instrument on the song.

"I very happy to announce I have written and recorded the end credits song for the new Hobbit movie 'The Desolation of Smaug'," he wrote.

Listen to Ed Sheeran's new song 'I See Fire' below:

"I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it."

Ed has previously met up with director Peter Jackson and thanked him for the chance to be involved with the project.

"Big up Peter Jackson and his team for giving me the opportunity," he added. "It's also the first solo song I've released in over 2 years, it's not on the new album though, that fun starts next year."

The song will not feature on his forthcoming second album and is expected to be released within the next 36 hours.

It comes shortly after he also debuted two new tracks during his shows at Madison Square Garden this past week.
