Troye Sivan Alludes To Losing His Virginity To An Older Man On New Song ‘Seventeen’

The 'My My My!' star reveals all...
Troye Sivan released Bloom last night and, as anticipated, the lead track 'Seventeen' is heartbreakingly personal. In it Troye, alludes to losing his virginity to an older man. In it, he sings: "Got something here to lose that I think you wanna take from me" and "I went out looking for love when I was seventeen // Maybe a little too young, but it was real to me".

Troye first spoke up about the song earlier this year. In June, Billboard published an interview in which Troye discussed Bloom, his career and life at large. Candid as ever, the 'YOUTH' star did not hold back. Not only did he touch on his coming out experience but he also spoke up about the controversial real life inspiration behind 'Seventeen'.
According to Troye, the song itself details a time in which he was discovering his sexuality and ended up seeing an older man who he met online. Like so many young gay men who've been in similar situations, Troye felt like he couldn't discuss the relationship then but now that he is a bit older, he wants to be honest about it for his fans.
“I’ve rehearsed the backlash and the response a million times in my head. I’m worried because I don’t want to ever come across that I’m condoning that or anything like it. But I felt, greater than all of those worries, a responsibility to tell that true story - of the curious gay kid who puts himself in some kind of shady situation to find a connection, like all of us crave.”

Troye also chatted about the pressures of being a young gay man in the media in 2018. “I do feel a little bit like a guinea pig sometimes. That the world or the press or whatever is sort of using me and a bunch of other young people right now as education points, [like] we’re teaching the world about all of these different things.”
Of course, it's great that Troye is willing to speak up about so many important issues but we have to remember that he is a young gay man growing up too and not a spokesperson for all LGBTQ+ matters.

VERSE 1
I got these beliefs that I think you wanna break
Got something here to lose that I think you wanna take from me
You say that I'm asleep but I wanna be awake
Got something here to lose that I know you wanna take
PRE-CHORUS
And he said age is just a number, just like any other
We can do whatever, do whatever you want
Boy becomes a man now
Can't tell a man to slow down
He’ll just do whatever, do whatever he wants
CHORUS
I went out looking for love when I was seventeen
Maybe a little too young, but it was real to me
And in the heat of the night, saw things I'd never seen
Oh, seventeen
VERSE 2
You should know I'm green but I'll find my way around
Heard the whispers, now let's see what all the talk's about
I'm taking in the sights and measuring the sounds
Heard the whispers, now let's see what all the talk's about
BRIDGE
Oh, seventeen
Seventeen, seventeen, seventeen
Seventeen, seventeen, seventeen
CHORUS
I went out looking for love when I was seventeen
Maybe a little too young, but it was real to me
And in the heat of the night, saw things I'd never seen
Oh, seventeen
I went out looking for love when I was seventeen
Maybe a little too young, but it was real to me
And in the heat of the night, saw things I'd never seen
Oh, seventeen
OUTRO
Seventeen, seventeen, seventeen
Seventeen, seventeen, seventeen
