Craig David - Greatest Hits
While nothing will ever top the impact he had with his debut album, Born To Do It, Craig David has been a consistent hit-maker for the best part of a decade.
His first ever Greatest Hits set recalls some of his finest moments to date with a couple of new tracks thrown in for good measure. Clocking in at a mammoth nineteen tracks, admittedly they're not all Grade A classics, but there's plenty to here to keep even the most casual of Craig David fans pleased.
The jewel in the album's crown has to be Fill Me In, which has become something of a classic pop record. A story of young lovers sneaking around behind their parents' backs, it still sounds as fresh today as it did back in 2000. Similarly, 7 Days is a record with almost universal appeal and we dare you to avoid singing along.
Of his more recent material, the David Bowie-sampling, Hot Stuff (Let's Dance) is right up there, while latest single, Insomnia also holds it own, sounding not entirely dissimilar from Ne-Yo's recent smash, Closer. Uptempo, fresh and very funky, we hope it's an indication of what's to come in the future.
Rise And Fall, his collaboration with Sting was a massive hit but, having been released around the same time as the Sugababes' Shape, we can't help but feel (perhaps controversially) that theirs was the superior version. Similarly, lesser hits such as World Filled With Love and You Don't Miss Your Water feel a bit like padding.
A commendable representation of his career so far, we're sure this will be making it into quite a few stockings this Christmas. Expect to see him performing some of the best tracks during his set at the Jingle Bell Ball on December 10th.
