We need answers.
Ariana Grande's 'thank u, next' video literally broke the internet when it dropped on November 30. Paying homage to our favourite '00s teen movies, Ariana took on the iconic roles of Regina George in Mean Girls, Torrance Shipman in Bring it On, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and Jenna Rink in 13 Going on 30.
After weeks of being teased with cameos and hints, when the 'thank u, next' visual finally debuted it racked up over 50 million views in one day, making it the most watched YouTube video in 24 hours EVER. Ariana really did that. But some iconic moments didn't quite make the cut.
'thank u, next' director Hannah Lux Davis revealed that a lack of time meant we missed out on even more Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring it On and 13 Going on 30 action. So here are some of the deleted scenes we missed out on.
That "fetch" moment in Mean Girls.
Remember that moment when The Plastics are backstage at the pre-talent show, applying lip gloss and Regina George snaps at Gretchen Wieners, "Stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s never going to happen!"? Well, apparently that scene was going to be included but didn't make the final edit because they ran out of time.
"It was the backstage moment before the Santa dance," Hannah revealed to Entertainment Tonight. "[Trying to make] 'Fetch' happen, but also, the lip gloss — when they're all with that Victoria's Secret lip gloss, like, 'Oh my god.' It was such an iconic moment!"
She added: "Ariana and I were very much on the same page with like, the lip gloss... [but] that one got cut, just because there was no time in that shooting day."
At least we did get the girls dancing to Jingle Bell Rock and of course, Kris Jenner doing her best cool mom/Amy Poehler impression.
Paulette Bonafonté getting her dog back in Legally Blonde.
One memorable moment from Legally Blonde that ended up on the cutting room floor was when Elle Woods used her legal knowledge to get Paulette Bonafonté's dog back. Paulette's spiteful ex-boyfriend kicked her out of their trailer and kept their beloved pooch, but with Elle's help she takes the dog back.
Ariana did film this iconic scene but in her behind-the-scenes video admitted that it didn't make the "first cut". Luckily, they will make sure we get to see it and we did get our fix of Jennifer Coolidge. The actress was thrilled to work on the video as an original Legally Blonde cast member and said she loved the message it gave young girls.
"I love Ariana Grande because this is the essence of who she is," Jennifer gushed. "All these young girls hear this song and the message is, it's a strong woman's message that you don’t have to destroy yourself over men. You can date men, and when it goes wrong, you benefit from the hardship, but you move on and it’s just like okay. And you don’t have to hang out in it."
