A dodgy Japanese tattoo is the least of her worries…
Whew – Ariana Grande just can't catch a break this week. First, she had a major tattoo fail, which she eventually corrected, and now she's allegedly being sued.
TMZ reported that the "7 Rings" singer and a production company she worked with on the "God is a Woman" video are facing legal action for copyright infringement over one particular scene.
Vladimir Kush claims the scene was lifted from his paintings, "The Candle" and "The Candle 2". The fine artist produced both paintings back in 2000 and now he claims Ariana and the production team at Freenjoy purposely lifted the concepts to fit into the music video.
In the video, a silhouette of Ariana can be seen dancing at the centre of a candle, where the wick would be. In the background are cloudy skies, which almost appear painted, and she begins singing. Vladimir claims that the common elements between his art and the clip include the concepts, composition and background.
Vladimir is now asking a court to issue an injunction to take the clip – which was released on July 13 2018 – down. It already has over 197 million views on YouTube.
Freenjoy has had issues with using other artists' work in the past, Vladimir alleged in the lawsuit. He claims the company were also involved in producing Kendrick Lamar's "All the Stars" video featuring SZA, which was sued by a different artist, who had denied them the use of her work twice. Both parties eventually reached a settlement.
