There is no question that Ariana Grande's new single 'thank u, next' is a bit of a phenomenon. Since it was released, the song has gone on to top charts worldwide (US, UK, Canada) and broken major records (it's the fastest song to reach 100 million streams on Spotify ever) Fans can't get enough of its empowering message of self-love and its heartbreakingly candid lyrics. It's a bop.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that people are eager to see the music video and Ariana has been teasing the new visual on Instagram and Twitter over the past few days. We're yet to see any official snippets but Ariana has confirmed that part of the video is going to be inspired by 'Mean Girls'. It's a photo of her kissing her "cousin" Courtney Chipolone that is sending fans into meltdown.
Who is Courtney Chipolone?
In one of the behind the scenes pics from the set of the new video, Ariana shared a photo of her with her close friends Alexa Luria and Courtney Chipolone. So far so normal except for the fact that Ariana kisses Courtney in the photo and posted the shot with the caption: "yeah but she’s my FIRST cousin" in reference to the iconic Mean Girls scene in which Karen kisses her cousin Seth.
It's actually unclear whether or not Courtney and Ariana are related. Ariana has referred to Courtney as her cousin before but fans aren't sure if that's because they are such good friends or actually biological family. In fact, Ariana and Courtney are so close that they've got matching tattoos that say "court". They are the definition of friendship goals and we are obsessed with them.

Naturally the picture has sparked major discussion from fans online. Some are creeped out by it and calling it "incest" if they are really cousins, while others just find it hilarious either way. A couple of people have started speculating if Ariana is bisexual or lesbian but we're pretty sure this is just a joke in reference to Mean Girls and nothing to be taken seriously. It's barely a peck.
Ariana revealed that the three of them will be playing the plastics from Mean Girls. She also confirmed in an Instagram Story that this image is just "25% of the [tea]" as to what the 'thank u, next' video will be about. With that in mind, we reckon that she will also be recreating three other films.
First Wives Club seems obvious as she loves it (hopefully Victoria Monet and Tayla Parx will cameo) but what could the other two be? Our bet is Death Becomes Her (she's been rewatching it) and maybe something Grey's Anatomy related (she's been tweeting about it).
