Ariana Grande's '7 rings' video is littered with easter eggs and secret meanings...
Ariana Grande never ceases to amaze us. In just six years, she has transformed from a promising young artist into one of the most influential popstars of her generation. It's hard to think of any other star who's dominated pop culture quite as much as Ariana in the past year (from 'no tears left to cry' to 'thank u, next' she can do no wrong) and her new single '7 rings' proves that she is still capable of surprising us.
27 hilarious Ariana Grande '7 Rings' memes that will raise your net worth
'7 rings' is one of her most experimental and forward-thinking singles to date. Not only does it sample 'My Favourite Things' from The Sound of Music but it also sees Ariana flex her rapping skills (really) as she spits bars about female friendship and how rich she is. It's cocky af and it will make you feel like a millionaire. On top of that, it has a stunning video that's filled with hidden details.
Check out all the '7 rings' video easter eggs below.
Ariana Grande - 7 rings
The video itself is directed by Ariana's longterm collaborator Hannah Lux Davies and it's essentially a boss bitch house party (no boys allowed). However, it wouldn't be an Ariana Grande music video if it wasn't filled with secret meanings and sneaky messages. With that in mind, we've scoured it back to front and picked out 15 hidden details you might have missed in it.
1. Ariana teases the thank u, next album release date.
This is yet to be confirmed but many fans on social media think that the car licence plate at the start of the video is a clue as to when AG5 will drop. The 25 seems to hint that we could be getting this album as soon as next Friday (January 25th).
2. Could Nomad be the name of a new song?
Ariana's known for dropping song titles in videos so it seems likely that 'Nomad' will be a thank u, next song as it features so prominently in the video. Ariana recently teased that she's changed the tracklist of the album so this could be a new edition. Either way, 'nomad' means wanderer and it's likely that Ariana relates to the term as an international touring legend.
3. Ariana's six best friends are in the video.
well ............. ‘twas a pretty rough day in nyc. my friends took me to tiffany’s. we had too much champagne. i bought us all rings. 💍 it was very insane and funny. & on the way back to the stu njomza was like ‘bitch, this gotta be a song lol’. so we wrote it that afternoon. https://t.co/CoczmPj1Fo

me, vic, courtney, alexa, tayla, njomza, kaydence (and my mom and nonna so technically nine but they got theirs after song was done) https://t.co/y6G9HGQTh4

The song's title 7 rings is based on the fact that Ariana bought her six best friends matching rings last year and they actually feature as the main co-stars in the video. Victoria Monet, Courtney Chipolone, Alexa Luria, Njomza and Kaydence all have rings and are part of the visual. Find out more about them all here.
4. The champagne is actually in reference to the day it was made.
In Ariana's own words, '7 rings' was made on a day when Ariana had "too much champagne" so the champagne in the video isn't just a luxury item, it's a hint as to how '7 rings' was created.
5. The cat ears are linked to Ariana's past.
Arianators all know that Ariana loves cat ears. She wears them less now than she used to but it's cute to see her rock a pair again here. Someone send us bejewelled cat ears now please.
6. The letter box says 7.
It's a blink and you'll miss it easter egg but the letter box says '7' in honour of the song's title.
7. All the Japenese references are a nod to Ariana's love of Japanese culture.
Ariana is very public about her love of Japanese culture and even speaks Japanese so it's no surprise to see Japanese text, sushi and other references throughout the video. Some people have accused Ariana of cultural appropriation, while others think that she is just paying tribute to a culture she loves.
8. Toulouse gets his own bad bitch dog house.
Toulouse is one of Ariana's many iconic pets. After starring in the 'thank u, next' video, he gets his very own luxury pink dog house in the '7 rings' video.
9. The video features girls of all shapes and sizes.
It's no secret that Ariana is a feminist in every sense of the word so it's great to see her work with dancers of all shapes and sizes and races in the '7 rings' video. Representation matters.
10. She reminds us of her Dangerous Woman era.
Behind Ariana's amazing Rapunzel ponytail are various men in bunny costumes. We have no doubt that this is a reference to her iconic Dangerous Woman bunny ears. It wouldn't surprise us if Ari's close friends and choreographers Brian and Scott are wearing them.
11. Ariana is a gamer.
Ari is a proper video game queen (just ask her about Pokémon Go Eevee) so it's fun to see her incorporate a games console into the 7 rings video. There is a terrible stereotype that only boys like video games so it's great to see Ariana centre them in such a female focused video.
12. Ariana pays tribute to Alice in Wonderland.
Ariana is a big Alice in Wonderland fan so it's no shock that the doll like walk in closet in the '7 rings' looks like it's come out of that universe.
13. Toulouse ran on set and made an accidental cameo.
T wasn't originally supposed to be in this video but he literally wouldn't leave me / set / the shot so pic.twitter.com/CrkQZ3p4RO

Yeah. Toulouse features in the video multiple times but, as Ari revealed, it's pretty clear that he butted into a few scenes.
14. The main car actually has loads of cute details.
Take a closer look and it says Ariana and '7 Rings' graffitied on it.
15. The house was used by 5 Seconds of Summer in the 'She's Kinda Hot' video.
can we take a sec to appreciate that ariana and 5SOS shot their videos at the same house #7Rings pic.twitter.com/nCSSh8qbZl

Not a purposeful easter egg persay but it's fun to see houses reappear in major pop videos.
In conclusion, this is Ariana Grande's world and we are just living in it.
