Michelle Williams - Unexpected

You couldn't find a more perfect title for Michelle Williams' third solo album than Unexpected.

Having released two largely overlooked gospel-influenced efforts, 2002's Heart To Yours and 2004's Do You Know?, the former Destiny's Child star seems out to surprise with her latest effort.

Led by the bass-heavy, floor-filler of a single, We Break The Dawn, it's fair to say that her sound has undergone something of an evolution. The electro-flavoured, Hello Heartbreak is similarly quite the booty shaker and will go down a storm in the clubs.

Also surprising is the lyrical content on mid-tempo acoustic ballad, Thank U on which she thanks her cheating partner for his infidelity, as it allowed her the time to find someone new. 'While you were out getting yours, I was getting mine'. Ooo-er missus!

Stop This Car with its string loops, subtle hip hop beats and piano chords is in a similar vein to other recent Stargate hits for the likes of Chris Brown and Rihanna and is surely destined to be a single, but sadly not all of the album's tracks can live up to such a high standard, with slower tracks like The Greatest and Too Young For Love just sounding like filler.

Having said that, the progression she's shown with this album is immense and we're excited to hear what else Michelle has in store for us in the future.
