Damien Hirst's BRIT Awards 2013 Statue Unveiled Ahead Of Artist Nominations Today

The iconic artist's multi-coloured design for the 2013 gongs has been officially unveiled.

Damien Hirst has unveiled his design for this year's gongs for the BRIT Awards 2013 and says he was "honoured" to contribute to this year's awards show.

The iconic British artist is the third to design the official awards for the annual ceremony, and revealed his multi-coloured spotted design for the gongs earlier today (10th January).

"I am honoured to be asked to design this year's statue," Damien Hirst said alongside the announcement. "It has become such an iconic award, I love the BRITs."

"Damien is truly one of the most important British artists and his reimagining of the statue will make winning a 2012 BRIT an even more special proposition," BRITs Chairman David Joseph added.

Previous artist to design the BRIT Award trophies include Dame Vivienne Westwood back in 2011 and Peter Blake's design last year.

The BRIT Awards 2013 nominations are due to be officially announced later today at an event in central London.

Last year's BRITs Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande is due to officially hand over the title to this year's winner Tom Odell as part of the ceremony.
