The 'This Is Love' rapper says Katy Perry's regular collaborator was his "go-to' guy on the album.
Will.i.am says Katy Perry's longtime producer Dr Luke played an important role on his new album '#willpower' and described the American producer and songwriter as his 'go-to' guy on the record.
Dr Luke, who worked with Katy on the majority of her hit singles including 'Teenage Dream', 'California Gurls' and 'I Kissed A Girl', hooked up with The Voice UK rapper to work on his upcoming fourth studio album, which is set to launch this September.
'Great Times' rapper will.i.am says he enjoys working with the prolific producer because it allows him to take a step back from the recording process to focus on other areas like the song lyrics.
"Right now, there's one person who''s the 'go-to' guy for everything - Dr Luke," will.i.am told the Daily Star this week. "I just worked with him on '#willpower' and it feels good to put the ego to one side, give up being a control freak, go into the studio with Dr Luke and let him drive the ship.
"There are a lot of cool beat people but they can't help with lyrics," the 'This Is Love' rapper explained. "There are only two people who are hands-on during every point of creation. One is Dr Luke and the other? That would be me. I take pride in being able to do that."

Dr Luke has worked with a huge range of successful pop artists in the past including Jessie J on her hit single 'Domino' and on Britney Spears' 2011 album 'Femme Fatale'.
Will.i.am's new album '#willpower' is expected to boasts collaboration with Justin Bieber, LMFAO and Ne-Yo and is scheduled for release on 24th September.
