One Direction star Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend Katie Smith is bidding to launch a music career of her own after auditioning for The Voice.

The hopeful is among the latest set of contestants on the new series of the show – and dated the boyband star before hit fame back in 2010 as the pair auditioned for The X Factor.

"Katie can claim to have had Harry's eye before he was famous," a source told The Sun. "He was smitten with her for ages and they used to flirt all the time on the show.

The source added: "The Xtra Factor even picked up on it and arranged a date for them."

The short romance came to an end when Katie failed to make it to the live shows.

"It was a puppy love thing but was destined to end abruptly as she didn't make it to the live shows," the insider continued: "Who knows, maybe he will watch the show on Saturday and feel an urge to give her a call?"

The publication reports that Katie will take to the stage on this week's edition of The Voice for a duet of Paolo Nutini's 'Candy' with her new boyfriend.

Meanwhile, One Direction are currently on the road on their 'Take Me Home' world tour and are preparing to release their 3D concert movie in August.

Director of the film Morgan Spurlock took part in a Twitter question and answer session with fans yesterday and promised topless scenes, food fights and tears when the picture hits the big screen.
