The 'Teenage Dream' singer is being eyed up by Hollywood producers to play the iconic film starlet

Katy Perry is being lined up to star as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in a potential Broadway adaptation of My Week With Marilyn.

The film's producer Harvey Weinstein said plans were already being put together to bring the critical darling to the stage, and also revealed Katy would be his first choice for the lead role.

"If the movie works, I would try to make it a musical and I would go to Katy first," Harvey told E! Online yesterday (24th November).

"I think she can play Marilyn on the Broadway stage. I think she would be amazing."

The prominent Hollywood producer also thanked the 'Teenage Dream' singer for drawing attention to the film's trailer, which features a remix of Katy's current single 'The One That Got Away'.

"Katy posted about it on her Twitter and Facebook and the next thing you know 250,000 people have downloaded the trailer in an hour."

The 'California Gurls' singer emulated Marilyn Monroe once before in a commercial for second album 'Teenage Dream', in which she recreated the iconic scene from Monroe's film Seven Year Itch.

Earlier this week it was announced Katy Perry will guest host an episode of US comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live on 10th December.
