He has now released a video of himself walking into the studio with a narration explaining that he is preparing for the release of new material.
"It means more to me than anybody else in the world," he reveals in the clip. "I've only done two albums in ten years – that's the way I really look at it. What does the next decade mean for me?"
He continues: "I'm the one who sits and gets obsessive about it before you even get to hear it. As close as I get to it, I don't know if I could torture myself like that year in and year out and expect it to fulfill me the way that it does and the way that it is right now."
He has previously stated how he wanted to wait till the time was right to release new material and he had never retired from music.
"I don't want to put anything out that I feel like is something I don't love. You just don't get that everyday. You have to wait for it," he added.
The footage of the singer behind a mic then sees the singer say: "I'm ready".
A countdown clock has since peen put on his official website which counts down three days.
