The rapper is looking forward to becoming a dad and has vowed to be there for his child.
Jay-Z has spoken about becoming a father for the first time and admitted that his dad was his "superhero".
The 'Otis' rapper's wife Beyonce is due to give birth to their first child next February, with reports that the couple are expecting a girl.
In an interview with GQ magazine, Jay-Z discussed what he thought it meant to be a good father.
"Providing - that's not love. Being there - that's more important," he said.
"I mean, we see that. We see that with all these rich socialites. They're crying out for attention; they're hurting for love. I'm not being judgmental — I'm just making an observation.
"They're crying out for the love that maybe they didn't get at home, and they got everything, all the material things that they need and want. So we know that's not the key."
Jay-Z went on to admit that he felt a huge void in his life when his father left when he was younger.
"My dad was such a good dad that when he left, he left a huge scar. He was my superhero," he added.
Jay-Z is currently on his 'Watch The Throne' tour in the US with rapper and collaborator Kanye West.
