Following Girls Aloud's formation on the reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals, "Sound of the Underground" was released two weeks later... .
It became the Christmas number one in 2002, spent four weeks at top-spot and achieved platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry.
Sound of the Underground eventually became the title of the girls' first album, which also went platinum and peaked at number 2 in the UK album charts.
The video was shot in an empty London warehouse just days after Girls Aloud's formation. It was directed by Phil Griffin, who would later direct the videos for "No Good Advice" and "Life Got Cold".
