The 'Something New' five-piece open up about reuniting for their new greatest hits tour and album.
Girls Aloud have revealed the details behind their newly announced reunion after three years apart, and say that despite not being pictured out together since the split they have all stayed friends and in close contact.
The 'Call The Shots' five-piece took an extended hiatus in 2009 and announced their return at a live press conference this afternoon (19th October), alongside details of their new single, new greatest hits album and a new tour.
Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole opened up about the meeting that led to the band's decision to reunite, and says it is emotional for the five girls to mark their tenth anniversary as a band.
"We haven't been seen publicly together for three years but we've actually been socialising the whole time," Cheryl revealed during the conference. "So it wasn't like we've been apart for three years.
"But it was emotional to talk about the fact that it's ten years down the line," the 'Parachute' singer explained. "It was actually in a hotel when we got together and talked about it.
"We were very much cloak and dagger for a while. It was just reality nice to catch up and talk about this day," she added.
Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts then revealed the five girls had met up to discuss the reunion at the exact same hotel they stayed in on the first night they formed as Girls Aloud after winning Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002.
Nadine Coyle explained that recording for their new single 'Something New' started way back in April and May this year, alongside the band's regular production team Xenomania, with each of the girls recording their parts at separate.

Cheryl also spoke about how much the five members have changed over their ten years as a group, having grown up together over the course of their twenties.
"I was 19 and some of the girls were 17 when we joined the group," she explained. "Over the ten years you grow up together.
"We've shared so many amazing experiences together [and] we've got amazing memories so it's hard to pick a highlight."
Girls Aloud will release their new single 'Something New' on 18th November with their greatest hits collection 'Ten' due out a week later on 26th November.
Girls Aloud will then embark on a new 12 date reunion tour beginning on 21st February 2013 in Newcastle.
