The star's announcement at the VMAs that she was pregnant drove fans crazy with excitement.
Beyonce's announcement that she is pregnant was the biggest moment on Twitter in 2011, the micro-blogging site has revealed.
The singer's reveal at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles prompted nearly 9,000 tweets per second.
The spike beat news that the late Steve Jobs was resigning as the CEO of Apple, according to Twitter's #YearInReview.
Beyonce is reportedly due to give birth in February, although speculation is growing that the baby could arrive in December.
In a recent interview, Beyonce revealed that she finds her pregnancy "exciting" and is keen to start the next stage of her life.
"I've been really conscious and I've been trying my best not to lose control because I've met so many people who say, 'My second baby, my third baby, I learned my lesson," she said.
